DAVID NORTON
HIGHLY INFLUENTIAL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES
David Norton is co-founder, president and CEO of Balanced Scorecard Collaborative, Inc., an organization facilitating the global use and effectiveness of the Balanced Scorecard as a value-added management process. Dr. Norton was previously the president of Renaissance Solutions, Inc., an international consulting firm he co-founded in 1992. Before Renaissance, Dr. Norton co-founded Nolan, Norton & Company where he spent 17 years as president, prior to its acquisition by KPMG Peat Marwick.
A frequent lecturer and writer, Dr. Norton’s work with the Balanced Scorecard has been the subject of many articles and public conferences. The Balanced Scorecard concept was selected by Harvard Business Review as one of the most influential management ideas of the past 75 years.
Dr. David Norton is the co-author, with Dr. Robert S. Kaplan, of numerous articles for the Harvard Business Review (HBR), as well as four books.
His fourth and latest book, published in February 2006, “Alignment: Using the Balanced Scorecard to Create Corporate Synergies”, shows top executives how to align the work of its business units, its board of directors, its investors, customers and suppliers with headquarter’s long-term goals, using an Office of Strategic Management.
His previous books with Kaplan include “Strategy Maps”, named as one of the top ten business books of 2004 by Strategy & Businesss and amazon.com., “The Strategy Focused Organization”, named by Cap Gemini Ernst & Young as the best international business book for year 2000, and “The Balanced Scorecard: Translating Strategy into Action”, which has been translated into 22 languages and won the 2001 Wildman Medal from the American Accounting Association for its impact on practice.
Dr. David Norton and Dr. Robert S. Kaplan have been ranked by the Financial Times among the top 15 business world’s most important practical and intellectual influences.
David Norton earned his doctorate in business administration from Harvard University, an MBA from Florida State University, an MS in operations research from the Florida Institute of Technology, and a BS in electrical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he also served as a trustee.
