RON HAZELTON

HOST OF THE TELEVISION SERIES RON HAZELTON’S HOUSECALLS

In the opening of his television series Ron Hazelton’s HouseCalls, Ron greets us from behind the wheel of his motor home. Ron is visiting families across the country, providing HouseCalls viewers with the friendly advice and motivation they need to improve their homes. Prior to HouseCalls, Ron Hazelton was probably best known for his many years of working with homeowners as The House Doctor, helping with all sorts of home improvement and repair projects. Hoping to reach out to a broader audience, Ron developed the concept of a “workshop on wheels” so he literally takes his home improvement show on the road.

Ron began his journey into the world of home improvement when he left a successful career as a marketing executive to return to his roots as the son of a building contractor and hone his woodworking skills. In a short period of time he became recognized as a master craftsman and cabinetmaker, which led to the founding of his antique restoration workshop in 1978. Cow Hollow Woodworks in San Francisco restored over 17,000 pieces of furniture while Ron was there.

Ron wanted to find a way to share with others the satisfaction he derives from working with his hands to enhance the beauty and comfort of a home. With this goal in mind, Ron pioneered the concept of reality-based home improvement television. His first series, The House Doctor, included over 600 televised house calls. Ron created, co-produced and hosted this series for ABC-owned KGO-TV in San Francisco. You can still see The House Doctor on Home and Garden Television several times a week in the United States and Canada.
