DEBORAH NORVILLE

“Tough”... “Savvy”... “A survivor”...are among the words used to describe veteran journalist Deborah Norville, anchor of Inside Edition, America’s top-rated syndicated newsmagazine. Ratings jumped 15% the week the two time National Emmy award-winner joined Inside Edition in 1995.

The mother of three, Norville took the adage “the show must go on” to a new level, anchoring Inside Edition from her hospital bed nine hours after the birth of her daughter, in September 1997. Producers had requested the extraordinary assignment when it proved no other staffers were available to anchor the broadcast!

Norville came to Inside Edition from CBS News where she was a correspondent for “Street Stories,” “48 Hours,” and co-anchor for “America Tonight,” a CBS News summer magazine show. While at CBS News, Norville was awarded an Emmy for her work on “48 Hours” “Flood, Sweat and Tears,” a look at the devastating Mississippi floods.

Previously, Norville hosted her own national radio show from her home — “The Deborah Norville Show,” heard on over 200 stations across the country. Earlier she was co-host of NBC’S “Today” and anchor of NBC “News At Sunrise.” At NBC, Norville won her first national Emmy for her role in covering the Democratic uprising in Rumania. In January 2004, Deborah joined the MSNBC network, where she interviews the people making the news and discusses the biggest and most compelling stories of the week.

In October 1997, Norville published her first book Back on Track: How to Straighten Out Your Life When It Throws You A Curve . The book is the first time Norville speaks in detail about her troubles at “Today” and offers inspirational stories of women who’ve gotten back on top after crashing defeats. She has also written two children’s books, I Don’t Want To Sleep Tonight , which was published in fall 1999 and her latest I Can’t Fly .

She is a member of the Board of Directors of New York City Council of Girl Scouts, the Board of Directors of the Broadcast Foundation and the Steering Committee for the Rita Hayworth Gala, a major Alzheimer’s Association fundraiser. Under her chairmanship in 1992, the Gala raised $1.5 million — an all time high.

A First Honor Graduate, Summa Cum Laude (4.0) of the University of Georgia, Norville was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Blue Key Honor Societies. She has been named ‘Best in the Business’ by Washington Journalism Review, ‘Mother of the Year’ by the National Mother’s Day Committee and awarded a local Emmy and Silver Plaque from the Chicago Film Festival.
