UPBEAT, DYNAMIC, AND FUN INTERACTIVE ENTERTAINMENT

Drum Café was started in Johannesburg South Africa in 1996 by Warren Lieberman, before expanding to all the major centers around South Africa. Initially started to a commerical restaurant in the suburbs of Johannesburg.

With the flood of international conference business into South Africa, Warren teamed Munkie Mcapayi and together took the taste of Africa to the conference delegates by offering interactive drum circles where everyone got to play an African drum.

The response was phenomenal. Within months, the Drum Cafe became the hottest corporate entertainment and team building event in South Africa. Drum cafe accepted numerous invitations to perform for different organizations around the world. In 2002, the Drum Cafe went international.

First opening in the UK and Australia, lessons were learned! As a result, formal structure, protocols and manuals were put in place. Choreography was refined and the facilitators where trained in the Drum Cafe Program.

In 2002, the Drum Cafe developed and produced an interactive theatrical production “Drumstruck”, where everyone in the audience gets to play a drum. After runs in South Africa and Sydney, Australia, in June 2005, “Drumstruck” opened its doors to rave reviews off Broadway in New York.

In 2003, the Drum Cafe opened in the USA and Canada and by 2004 spread its wings coast to coast in North America, Australia, and Germany.

The visual aspect to the name “The Drum Café” has been a key to the success of the brand. When people hear the name, “The Drum Café” they immediately develop a picture in their mind of a little café where people are sitting around drinking coffee banging on a drum.

The Drum Cafe interactive event is designed break down barriers both vertically and laterally, across racial, age and gender barriers with in organizations. Interactive drumming is a cutting edge tool now being used in business to develop unity in the workplace. It is a powerful team building method, because the effect is immediate and is felt by everyone.

Believe it or not, the Drum Cafe works for every group, large or small, conservative or extravagant, technical or creative. The Drum Cafe promotes the power of communication, synergy, harmony and team building through interactive drumming.

The drum is the most primordial of all the instruments. We spend the first 9 months of our lives, 6 inches from our mothers heart. The drum is in all of us. The beat is in all of us.
